Alright, so this was freaking cool. Apartment Therapy published a tour of my home last month. In retrospect, I wish I’d said better, more interesting and cooler things when I was filling out the form on their website. I’m capable of that. But I was a little bit hurried, and I kinda didn’t think they’d publish it. Also, I kinda did think they would. This house is special. I worked fucking hard on its renovation, in a fever. As the kids say these days, this house was my entire personality for about six months. It was my redemption after the divorce. Speaking of redemption (Shawshank), I crawled through a river of shit and came out clean on the other side … in this house.

It feels good to know that so many people connect to it and to the way I both honored what was already beautiful about it and unapologetically ripped out what was ugly about it (and methodically disposed of the ugly one week at a time in my trash bin so I wouldn’t ever actually have to go to the dump). There are still some ugly things about it, don’t get me wrong, but the post-divorce cash infusion I was working with at the time has run dry. It’s a humble house — no frills, which is the way Apartment Therapy likes them. And I’m happy here, which is the way I like to be.
